The Egyptian Center for Public Policy Studies (ECCPS) was founded in 2007 as “The Egyptian Union of Liberal Youth” (EULY), aiming to serve as platform to promote the values of Classical Liberalism among young Egyptians. Since then, the Center has carried out various programs on public participation and new media tools, reaching out to more than 2,000 young men and women and administering funds of more than $180,000 from organizations such as the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the Open Society Institute (OSI) and Atlas Economic Research Foundation. In 2009, EULY’s work garnered international recognition, winning the Templeton Freedom Award for Special Achievement by a Young Institute.

Building on this substantial success, the organization took steps towards intellectual and organizational maturity with changes in its leadership and strategy. Chief among these adjustments was to change the name of the organization to the Egyptian Center for Public Policy Studies (ECPPS). ECPPS remains a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit organization. Its mission is to propose public policies aimed at legal and economic reform based on the Classical Liberal principles of the free market, minimal government, and individual freedom, with the ultimate goal of realizing these principles on the ground.
